Additional learning
I am governed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and bound by the Midwife’s rules and standards which are the same for all midwives I have a duty to update my skills regularly. My Equipment is checked annually by my midwifery supervisor. I receive regular midirs research updates and attend study days and conferences (many more than when I worked for the NHS). I visited “The Farm” in Tennessee in 2002 to find out why their women are so good at giving birth. It was good to learn from Ina May Gaskin and her colleagues how women’s belief that they can give birth, and the midwife’s belief in the women, really does make a difference. Check out her amazing statistics Since becoming an independent midwife I have an even greater belief in the capability of women to birth their babies. My range and depth of knowledge has dramatically increased by working with women and their midwives including Mary Cronk MBE. |
